Theodore Robinson

Theodore Robinson

Theodore Robinson was born on 3 June 1852 in Irasburg, Vermont, United States of America. He was an American impressionist painter and is recognised for his landscapes and portraits, which capture the light and atmosphere of rural and suburban life. Robinson studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Paris, where he had contact with the main European Impressionists, including Claude Monet.

His work is marked by a soft style and a vibrant colour palette, depicting outdoor scenes such as gardens, fields and lakes. Robinson was one of the first artists to introduce impressionism into American art, influencing future generations of painters.

He spent a significant amount of time in Giverny, France, where he became friends with Monet and adopted many of his techniques. Robinson died on 2 April 1896 in New York. Today, he is remembered as one of the pioneers of American Impressionism, and some of his paintings are considered essential and structuring in American Impressionism.
