T. C. Steele

T. C. Steele was born on 11 September 1847 in Owen County, Indiana, United States of America. He was a prominent painter of American Impressionism and one of the leading members of the Brown County School of Painting, known for his landscapes and scenes of rural life. Steele studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Paris, where he was influenced by European artists and developed his technique.

His work is characterised by the vibrant use of colour and the capture of natural light, reflecting the changing seasons and the beauty of nature. Steele often worked outdoors, which helped him develop a style that emphasised atmosphere and texture.

In addition to his artistic practice, Steele was an influential educator, teaching and inspiring many young artists. He died on 24 June 1926, in his studio in Brown County. Today, T. C. Steele is remembered as one of the great masters of the American landscape, and his works are valued for their connection with nature.
