The Sierra Nevada, located in the province of Granada, is the highest mountain range in the Iberian Peninsula, with the Mulhacén peak reaching 3,479 metres. Rich in biodiversity, it has been a National Park and Biosphere Reserve since 1986. Its history dates back to the time of the Romans, who called it Monte Solarius, and it later became known as Yabal Sulayr during the Muslim rule. In the 18th century, the mountain range became the focus of scientific expeditions and literary inspiration. Today, it is famous for the Pradollano ski resort, one of the southernmost in Europe, founded in 1912. Cetursa, the company that has managed the resort since 1964, has driven its growth. In summer, the mountain range attracts hikers, nature lovers and scientists. The Sierra Nevada is a place of extreme beauty and ecological and historical importance.
