Henri Martin was born on 5 August 1860 in Toulouse, France. He was an important post-impressionist painter, known for his vibrant landscapes and scenes of everyday life. Martin studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Toulouse and later in Paris, where he joined the circle of Impressionist artists.
His work is characterised by a rich palette and a technique that combines the use of short, separate and parallel brushstrokes with the application of pure colours, creating luminous and atmospheric effects. Martin had a particular penchant for depicting light and nature, often portraying fields, gardens and rural landscapes.
He also had a strong link with the muralist tradition, creating murals in public and private places. Throughout his career, Martin took part in various exhibitions and received recognition for his talent.
He died on 14 December 1943 in Paris. Today, Henri Martin is remembered as a significant figure in the post-impressionist movement, whose works continue to be appreciated for their spontaneity and technique.
