Flamenco is a profound and authentic artistic expression that combines music, dance and song and is one of the greatest symbols of Andalusian culture. With origins dating back to the 15th century, this art is the result of a fusion of Moorish, Gypsy, Jewish and Christian influences. In flamenco, cante (singing), toque (guitar), baile (dance), tap dancing and clapping stand out, forming an intense and emotional language that conveys joy, pain, desire and passion. Each style of flamenco, known as a ‘palo’, has its own rhythm, melody and structure, allowing great freedom of improvisation. In 2010, flamenco was recognised as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. Present in festivals, tablaos and the streets of Andalusia, it continues to inspire artists all over the world, remaining alive as a form of cultural resistance, identity and expression of the Spanish soul.
