Basilica of Santa María de los Reales Alcázares

Located in Úbeda, in the province of Jaén, the Basilica of Santa María de los Reales Alcázares is an outstanding example of the fusion of architectural styles such as Gothic, Mudejar, Renaissance, Baroque and Neo-Gothic. Built on the remains of the old major mosque, it was consecrated in 1233 by King Ferdinand III after the conquest of the city. Its Renaissance façade, designed by Pedro de Vera, stands out for its grandeur, while the interior reveals chapels with railings by Master Bartolomé and a 17th century barrel vault adorned with the coats of arms of the first bishops of Jaén. After a period of restoration that lasted almost three decades, the basilica was reopened to the public in 2011 and in 2014 it was given the title of Minor Basilica of the Diocese of Jaén.
