Vincent van Gogh

Vincent van Gogh was born on 30 March 1853 in Holland. He is one of the most influential artists in the history of Western art, despite his brief and tormented career. Van Gogh began painting seriously at the age of 27 and produced more than 2,000 works in a decade, including around 860 oil paintings.

His style is characterised by his vibrant use of colour and expressive brushstrokes, reflecting his intense emotions and struggle with his mental health. Famous works include “The Starry Night”, “The Sunflowers” and “Room in Arles”.

Van Gogh lived in various locations, including Paris, where he connected with other artists, and Arles, where he sought a quieter environment. His life was marked by periods of depression and mental breakdowns. In 1890, aged 37, he died tragically. Today, Van Gogh is celebrated as an artistic genius, and his works are valued all over the world.
